Jakarta. Chief Economics Minister Darmin Nasution swore in new board members of the Batam Industrial Utilization Body (BP Batam) on Tuesday (05/04). The board will monitor a series of audits as part of an effort to turn the area from a free trade zone into a special economic zone (SEZ) and end a dualism in Batam's administrative structure.

"We want to have an area to be proud of," Darmin said at the ceremony.
Darmin named Hatanto Reksodipoetro, a veteran businessman and bureaucrat, as the new chairman of BP Batam. Hatanto had served as the Indonesian ambassador for Norway from 2002 to 2005 and as secretary general at the Trade Ministry from 2005 to 2008.

Hatanto will work alongside other well-known figures, including former director general of taxes Sigit Priadi Pramudito. Sigit resigned from his post last year over low tax revenue during his reign. He had been replaced by Ken Dwijugiasteadi.

Sigit is now BP Batam's deputy for administration and general affairs.

The government also appointed Agus Tjahajana Wirakusumah as BP Batam vice chairman; Junino Jahja as deputy for planning and development; R.C. Eko Santoso Budianto as deputy for business facilities; Purba Robert M. Sianipar as deputy for other facilities and Gusmardi Bustami as deputy for general services.
